I woke early this morning with plans to fix breakfast. But Andrew beat me to it. After braiding Katie’s hair, we walk into the kitchen and he is flipping pancakes onto plates.

“Good morning. Have a seat. Breakfast is ready.” He puts plates filled with pancakes, bacon and eggs for each of us at the dining room table.

“I’m sorry. I should have gotten up earlier to make breakfast. I’ll do better tomorrow,” I promise him.

After Katie starts digging in, he leans in to whisper in my ear, “Katie usually eats a bowl of cereal and some fruit in the mornings, honey. I just wanted your first morning to be special.”

Chills run down my spine and it’s like my whole body comes alive. I know I told him that there could be nothing between us since I work for him, but last night and this morning is already proving how hard that’s going to be to stick to.

We have a good breakfast and after I nonchalantly point at Katie’s braided hair, Andrew comments, “Honey, your hair is so pretty.”

She sits up straighter and blossoms under her dad’s attention.

Before I know it, two weeks have gone by and we have settled into a routine. Andrew has picked up more hours at the hospital, and even though he’s usually gone when we get up in the morning, he is always home in time for dinner.

I spend all of my days going to class or studying and then my evenings are with Katie and Andrew. Andrew must have talked to a few people at the school, because the other moms are talking to me again. Some of them have even apologized for what Michelle did to me. I see Kennedy at school sometimes and she always has a big hug for me. I still miss her, but she seems happy with my replacement.

The chemistry between Andrew and me has grown and it’s getting more and more uncomfortable to be around him. I know I told him that I wouldn’t date him because he was my boss, but my lust for him has gotten out of hand.

Like now, Katie is in her bedroom playing and I’m in mine looking down at the pool watching Andrew swim laps. His muscles stretch and bunch in his back, showing how powerful he is. The tattoos on his shoulders make me wish I was closer to see what they are. My lower belly tightens and I feel the pull as I watch him. When he stops on one end, the water trickles down his body. He must feel my gaze on him, because once he’s at the end of the pool leaning back, he looks straight to my window. I know I’ve been caught. I don’t even try to hide it. I stand there for mere seconds before he lifts his hand and gestures for me to join him.

My head nods automatically and I flip to the side of the window with my back pressed against it. Can I do this?

I go to my chest of drawers and pull out my black bathing suit.
